Fate (Time part 2)

Updated: Jul 1, 2022

I hear a loud crash downstairs. Not as if something had fallen over, but as if someone had kicked down the door.

I open my eyes, face to face with my Mother trying to eat me. I fought with all the strength that I had in me, but she was too strong. Whilst pulling my arm back from her grip which would not let go I wiggled my body round and kicked her in the jaw.

She growled at me. Her sharp teeth snapped at my foot as I kicked her again. I tried telling myself that this was not my mum, not anymore, but I still recognized her face. I still loved her. She was not letting me go.

I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Maybe someone to save me, not a random coincidence, but fate. Any help would be better than the fate I would become to if I did not act. I screamed at the top of my voice.

The footsteps grew faster, someone was running up the stairs now.

"Maisie! Maisie! where are you?" Came a voice that I knew instantly and would always recognize it as a place of safety, the voice of my father.

From under the bed I could see his feet, bounding into the room. My mother still had hold of me, oblivious to my father entering. She was drooling anticipating eating me seconds before a metal stake pierced her skull and pinned her to the carpet. Her eyes were fallen open, staring deep into my soul showing me how brutal the world outside was, and that no matter how much sheltering and protection was afforded to me I would never be truly safe again.

"Maisie! you can come out now!" My fathers calm voice comforted me as I reached out to his outstretched bloodied hand and let him pull me from my confines.

"Daddy!" I flung my arms around him both joyous and sad, confused about what had happened to Mum and the whole world.

"Your safe now. Daddy's here." He reassured me running his hand through my hair, making me forget my previous thoughts of vulnerability and knowing it was not fate that saved me, but the love of a father for his daughter.
